Basin Street

... stands just outside New Orleans's French Quarter, forming the border and main street of of what used to be known as Storyville – the city's red light district, established in 1897 in an attempt to regulate drugs and prostitution. Basin Street Blues was written in 1928 and recorded by Louis Armstrong in the same year; Miles Davis is among many other artistes that have recorded it.

Other famous streets in New Orleans include Bourbon Street (in the heart of the French Quarter, famous for its drinking establishments and strip clubs) and Rampart Street, which forms the border of the French Quarter. These three streets run parallel to one another, between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain.
